i'm glad you find the freenect module useful. it was a long time ago i
was working with it.

as i remember this was based on the equation on the ros wiki:
http://www.ros.org/wiki/kinect_node/Calibration
which was only calculated for 10 bits, that's why it is clipped.
does it work for you for 11 bits? i see that others are using this
equation for the whole range, but i might have gotten wrong values above
1024. although i don't remember exactly.

the other kinect depth calibration equation commonly referred is by
Stephane Magnenat:

it is in the code commented out, but i think the other one gave better
results, although this one is supposed to work better.
