Thanks for this conversation, I've at least fixed the current fft
calculation so it uses the full range of the buffer (and shouldn't crash
with short jack buffer sizes) - in git now. It seems better than it was,
but not in an extraordinary way.

I can see that there may be some benefit of having automatic feature
detection in the audio stream in order to attempt to find and
parametrise events and instruments, but this sounds like quite a
research topic. 

I'm also keen on going the other route for prerecorded music, a system
for marking audio with keyframes and animation curves - reusing an
animation format to feed these to fluxus.
