[Fluxus] something fishy with custom pdata in particles

Aha! I thought there was a function like that somewhere.  It should  
be a bit clearer in the docs - I notice by looking through the email  
list that these functions have changed quite a bit over the last few  
years, probably needs a cohesive update at some point.  (I'll add  
this to my list of fun things to do...)
